According to Sky Sports, Swansea manager Graham Potter has confirmed Burnley’s interest in Sam Clucas. The Clarets missed out on signing his teammate Alfie Mawson, who moved to newly-promoted Fulham instead (h/t Sky Sports).
Clucas is set to miss the Swansea‘s Championship opener against Sheffield United on Saturday. However, Potter stated that the player would be fit for a medical, in case one was required.
Clucas moved to Liberty Stadium from Hull City last summer, with Stephen Kingsley heading in the opposite direction. Last season, the player featured 29 times in the Premier League as Swansea’s seven-year stay in the top-flight came to an end.
The 27-year-old is a versatile player, who is capable of playing in central midfield, on the left and right side of the midfield and also as a No.10. He is not only comfortable on the ball but is also agile, creative and has a good passing range that links up play superbly.
He enjoyed a pass completion rate of 83.6% last season and is great at keeping possession of the ball. Now, as far as Burnley are concerned, they were last season’s surprise package as they finished seventh in the Premier League.
Now, however, Dyche must make a mark in Europe. Back home, the Clarets need quality signings to improve next season. The hard-working midfielder is intelligent and blessed with Premier League experience, meaning Clucas could add quality and depth in this Burnley side.
He would give Dyche a new dimension in the middle of the park with his ball retention skills providing stability. His incisive forward passes could unlock stubborn opposition defences as well. Clucas also works wonders defensively, contributing an average of 1.2 tackles in the Premier League last season.

Burnley have lost Scott Arfield to Rangers and the Clarets need reinforcements. More specifically, they need a creative midfielder who can also score goals. Clucas’ strong aerial presence will help Burnley while attacking and defending set-pieces. After all, he won an average of 1.3 aerial duels last season. Hence, Burnley should go in for Sam Clucas as he will be a good signing for the club.
