Why signing Albert Adomah from rivals Aston Villa will be a shrewd move for West Brom

According to Birmingham Mail, West Brom are interested in signing Albert Adomah from Aston Villa. Villa failed to secure promotion to the Premier League last season as they lost 1-0 to Fulham. The Midlands club have the highest wage bill in the Championship and they must offload some players.

Ex-Chelsea captain John Terry left the club in the wake of Villa’s playoff defeat at Wembley. Other big names are expected to follow, and Adomah seems to be on the list.

The former Middlesbrough and Bristol City player hit 14 goals and provided 5 assists in 42 Championship appearances to help Villa to a fourth-place finish. Often deployed as a right-winger or as a right midfielder, Adomah has proven himself in the Championship.

Throughout his time in the second-tier competition, the player has scored 57 goals and assisted a further 59 in 339 appearances. The Ghana international will be a valuable addition to a West Brom side aiming for a quick return to top-flight football.

Adomah would provide genuine squad depth, competition, and width at the Hawthorns. His ability to play wide would add a different perspective to West Brom’s attacks and also help draw out the opposition defenders to create more space through the middle of the pitch.

His defensive work and attacking prowess will definitely make him a good signing. Adomah has spent close to 8 seasons plying his trade in the Championship with only two Premier League appearances for Middlesbrough in 2016/17.

At 30 years of age, Adomah may not be a long-term option but he has a couple of years left in him. Villa are in a vulnerable financial position and their mounting wage bill is one of the major reasons.

Hence, West Brom must fend off interest from Middlesbrough to get their man. A deal for Adomah would be a sweet one for the Baggies as they would not only snatch away a key player from a bitter rival but also see the club get one over Tony Pulis.

Some could argue that there are better investments options for Moore to consider. However, if the Baggies are to make their Championship stint a brief one, Moore should complete this piece of shrewd business.
