Go for it Emery – Arsenal should sign this Dutch wing-back prodigy who would be the ideal backup for Hector Bellerin

Signing Kenny Tete will be a smart move by Arsenal

The collective mood around the Emirates stadium took a massive turn for the better at the end of last season when former manager Arsene Wenger finally departed from his long-standing role as head coach of this historic football club.

He had completely lost control of the dressing room over the last couple of seasons and despite his prolonged personal relationship with the club and the fans, it was quite obvious that his time at the Emirates was gradually drawing to a close.

Although it certainly wasn’t going to be easy to replace the Frenchman, the man selected by the Arsenal chiefs to take over from Wenger was former Europa League winner Unai Emery, who has coached some of the biggest and most influential clubs in the world including PSG.

Although it was nearly assured that a new manager would deliver instant results, there was still a fairly big squad overhaul that was required if Arsenal were to challenge for the top four, let alone the Premier League title.

While talented players like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Matteo Gurndouzi and Lucas Torreira were all brought in, one of the biggest blunders of the Gunners’ season has to be the free transfer for 35-year-old former Juventus full-back Stephan Lichsteiner.

He was brought in to play second fiddle to the main right-back Hector Bellerin but the Spaniard’s ACL ruptured earlier in the season forced Lichsteiner into the squad on more than 20 occasions this season which certainly isn’t ideal for the Gunners.

The addition of a new right-back with the energy and youthfulness to be on the same wavelength as this dynamic Arsenal side is what is required. For such a player, they needn’t look past Netherlands international right-back Kenny Tete, who currently plays for Lyon in the Ligue 1.

A product of the world famous Ajax youth system, he graduated from the academy in 2013 before moving onto the bigger things in the Ligue 1 in the summer of 2014. Since this switch, he has become a key player for Lyon.

This season though, he has had to share the starting role with Rafael and Leo Dubois. Having made just 8 appearances for Lyon this campaign, he should be keen to move to England if a club comes calling, given his current hunt for playing time.

His movement and explosive pace down the flanks will be a massive asset to Arsenal. His defensive attributes also make him a massive upgrade when compared to Lichsteiner. This move is a no-brainer for Emery and considering that he could get his man quite cheap, he should go for this signing.
