Cristian Pavon would be the ideal January business for Arsenal
According to the Sun, Arsenal have re-ignited their interest in Boca Juniors’ Argentine international winger Cristian Pavon ahead of the January transfer window.
Unai Emery is a huge admirer of the 22-year-old Argentine international and wants him at the Emirates to add more pace and guile to his attack. (h/t the Sun)
However, Boca Juniors have slapped a daunting £40million price tag to ward off interest from the Gunners. Fulham have also made an enquiry but the Cottagers are well short of the valuation. (h/t Sun)
Pavon, who has 11 international caps to his name, was a part of Argentina’s squad that took part in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. Although he is yet to break the duck at the international level, Pavon has made eyeballs turn with his consistently impressive displays for Boca Juniors.
The 22-year-old had a hugely successful season for Boca in the Argentine top flight last term, accumulating 6 goals and 11 assists from 26 appearances. He has already hit the ground running this season with a couple of goals in the league.
Standing at 5ft. 7 inches, Pavon knows how to use his low centre of gravity to his advantage. He combines his wonderful technique with his skill sets and short stature to keep exceptional close control in tight areas along the flanks. A tactically-versatile attacker, Pavon is essentially a right-winger by trade but is also capable of playing on the left or through the centre as a supporting striker.
The 22-year-old has lightning pace and his sharpness, agility and instant acceleration coupled with his creative passing make him a potent threat in the final third. Pavon not only has the ability to leave the defenders for dead with sudden bursts of pace and clever changes of direction but he is also a good distance shooter with a powerful right foot that is capable of delivering spectacular goals.
To put things into perspective, Pavon would certainly be an upgrade on the struggling Henrikh Mkhitaryan and would also be a replacement for Danny Welbeck who is set to depart the club next summer upon the expiry of his contract.
Emery has shown plenty of faith in Mkhitaryan this season but the Armenian has largely underwhelmed with his lacklustre displays. Playing on the right of Emery’s 4-2-3-1 formation, the former Borussia Dortmund man has not only squandered loads of chances but has looked way off the pace, letting the team down with misplaced passes and poor decision-making.

Arsenal can definitely do with a little more depth in their squad and a sharp, agile and pacy attacker like Cristian Pavon can definitely add that X-factor to Emery’s attack.
That said, Arsenal should not hesitate to splash the cash to land the Argentine sensation as he has already shown plenty of promise and looks destined for greatness at the tender age of 22.
