Why Manchester United must beat Barcelona to sign Willian

Chelsea have rejected a £50m bid for Willian from Barcelona. With the Brazilian set to leave Stamford after a frustrating season, Manchester United are poised to swoop in. The La Liga giants were interested in the player to enhance their attacking quality after failing to sign Antoine Griezmann. However, the Blues appear to have turned down their initial offer.

It is suggested that Jose Mourinho and Manchester United are also keen to sign the player. To be fair, Willian will probably do a better job at Old Trafford because United need him more than Barcelona do right now.

The Red Devils lack a quality right-winger who can be deadly in front of the goal. Jesse Lingard has played that role a few times but Mourinho must find a permanent solution.

Why he would fit United

With the counter-attacking system Jose Mourinho usually deploys, Willian can be a deadly weapon for the Portuguese. The Brazilian has pace and is direct with the ball, meaning if their opponents lose possession, the 29-year-old will spring to life.

With Willian on the right side, Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku could form a deadly attacking trio. Their combined pace, physicality, passing accuracy and goal-threat could prove to be a lethal game-changer for United in the near future. Hence, the Red Devils must do everything to beat Barcelona and sign Willian.
