Why signing Alex Sandro could be a statement of intent from Manchester United

Alex Sandro has reportedly agreed on terms with Manchester United regarding a possible £53m move from Juventus. The left-back wasn’t part of Brazil’s World Cup squad as boss Tite preferred Marcelo and Filipe Luis. The 27-year-old, however, has been a quality player for the Italian champions in the past few seasons since joining from FC Porto.

With Manchester United looking for a left-back to replace Ashley Young and Luke Shaw, Sandro could be a perfect addition to the Jose Mourinho machine. The Brazilian has the required tools to be a good player at Old Trafford.

Let us scout the player with the attributes he possesses and comment as to why United getting him would be a huge thing:

Scouting Alex Sandro

Sandro is quite a tenacious player who can defend one-on-one situations and drive past defenders in the attacking third. He is unbelievably athletic which enables him to make runs up and down the pitch without much fuss. The Brazilian is also great on the ball and can fabricate numerous chances. In fact, he created 22 chances in 22 appearances last season in the Serie A.

His impressive height allows him to cover more ground quickly and win aerial duels when necessary. Sandro’s passing isn’t too shabby as well, possessing a success rate of 86%. His tackling and interception while defending clocks up an average of 2.2 and 1.2 per game respectively, which is highly remarkable.

The Brazilian’s hefty build allows him to protect the ball better and also shrug off challenges with ease. This will help him in a physical league like the English top-flight.

In Mourinho’s 4-2-3-1 system, Sandro could play as the left-back with the freedom to move forward due to his attacking qualities. United will certainly benefit from his presence on the pitch.
