According to a recent report by Evening Standard, Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers are close to signing Chelsea youngster Tammy Abraham on loan. The 21-year-old is currently on loan with Championship side Aston Villa where he has impressed so far this term.
Abraham has already scored 16 goals in 20 league outings and his form has attracted a host of sides, including Villa’s Midland rivals Wolves, who are keen on signing Abraham permanently.
The versatile England U21 international can play anywhere across the front line. Primarily deployed as a centre-forward, Abraham can also play wide on either flank. The pacy forward is a good finisher and a threat in the air. He is fast and blessed intelligent movement with an ability to find the back of the net regularly.
This progressive Molineux Stadium side has impressed since last season in the Championship. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side is currently ninth on the log after 21 games on merit. No other side has picked more points against the top six clubs this season than Wolves.
Raul Jimenez has been a revelation in the final third and has contributed significantly to the goal tally. However, at times, it has been evident that this side lacks a traditional No. 9. Tammy Abraham could be tasked with converting the host of chances that Wolves have missed especially when playing sides below them on the table.
Abraham has been in devastating form for Villa. However, the chance to play for a blossoming Wolves side boasting the likes of Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho could be too tempting for him to pass up. If he can find the back of the net as regularly in the Premier League as he has in the Championship, it could massively boost his England credentials.
Furthermore, Abraham would surely benefit from working under Nuno and being surrounded by the current wave of optimism at Molineux. The squad at Wolves is going to get better and the ambitions are only going to get higher.
He has the ability to drop deep and hold the ball up, helping bring other players into play and possibly extract the best out of another pacy player; Adama Traore. Given his recent success with headed goals in recent weeks, he would suit the Wolves’ style of play which utilizes the wing-backs.
At Wolves, Abraham would likely edge out Leo Bonatini as the more traditional striker to come off the bench. It won’t be an easy task dislodging Jimenez from the starting line-up but Abraham could be the ultimate weapon for Wolves in their quest to be more clinical in front of the goal and push things to a different level. As a matter of fact, if used correctly, he could be a game-changer.
