West Ham have been an unlucky side this season, purely due to the injuries Manuel Pellegrini has had to tackle since taking the job. The likes of Andriy Yarmolenko, Carlos Sanchez, and Winston Reid are all long-term absentees, while Jack Wilshere has been ruled out for the season with an ankle injury earlier this week.
This has left Pellegrini to rely upon the likes of Mark Noble, Declan Rice and Pedro Obiang as far as the central midfield options are concerned. The return of Manuel Lanzini last week from a long-term injury gave the Hammers a big boost but Pellegrini’s side clearly is in need of more depth in central midfield.
That said, West Ham should prioritise signing a midfielder this summer and Pellegrini must target RB Leipzig star, Diego Demme.
Diego Demme, 27, has been in good form for RB Leipzig this season, contributing with two assists from central midfield in 23 Bundesliga games. The German’s consistency and versatility for Leipzig, along with his tremendous technique and work rate has made him one of the Bundesliga’s best midfielders in the last few seasons.
A technically-gifted, hardworking and tenacious player, the 27-year-old excels in the defensive midfielder’s role. He is excellent in ball-winning and quick distribution and also possesses the ability to get forward and support his attackers
Diego Demme is not known for his physicality and aerial prowess but he makes it up with his tackling traits and reading of the game. The former SC Paderborn man is not particularly known for his goalscoring prowess but he is never afraid to maraud through the middle of the pitch and go for a crack on goal.
If West Ham can bag the signature of Demme, Pellegrini will have a solid anchor to build his team around which in turn will give license for the flair players like Felipe Anderson, Marko Arnautovic and Roberto Snodgrass to freely pass and move around. The one-time Germany international covers a lot of ground and has all the ingredients needed to take the Premier League by storm.
There is no reason why Pellegrini and West Ham shouldn’t make a move for the midfielder. Demme would definitely add quality to the West Ham squad, whilst bringing cover and competition for Declan Rice and the ageing Mark Noble. All in all, Demme’s signing could simply take the Hammers to a different level altogether.

That said, West Ham should go all out to sign Demme from Leipzig this summer.
