Tottenham Hotspur should make a move for Joachim Andersen
According to a report by The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a £25million January swoop for Sampdoria defender Joachim Andersen.
The report further claims that the North Londoners are viewing him as a replacement for Toby Alderweireld, whose future remains uncertain with less than a year left on his current contract. Losing for free would be a blow for Spurs, meaning the club must aim to offload him in the upcoming winter window itself.
However, the Belgian has played a key role in Tottenham’s successes over the years now. Alongside the likes of Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez, Alderweireld has truly carved a niche for himself and is easily one of Tottenham’s key performers right now.
It is indeed baffling that they haven’t extended his contract but with his departure looking increasingly likely, it is important for the club to plan for life without him.
And The Sun reports that Andersen could be a long-term successor to Alderweireld. At 22, Andersen is one of the brightest talents in the Serie A and definitely has a long way to go. He has represented Denmark’s U21 side on three occasions and has excelled for his club and country on numerous occasions.
He is far from being a big name and is relatively unknown at this point but his talents and skills could help him establish himself as a force to reckon with in England.
In 10 starts across competitions so far this term, Andersen has provided a solitary assist and has recorded a pass success rate of 89.8%.
In addition, he has also won an average of 1.6 aerial duels per game. As far as his defensive numbers are concerned, Andersen has averaged 1.2 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 4.6 clearances per game, which are excellent numbers for a player his age.
