Why Chelsea should go all out to sign Suso from AC Milan

Maurizio Sarri couldn’t have asked for a better start to his Chelsea career. Four wins out of four means that his side sit second in the table, only behind Liverpool on goal difference. But now as the season progresses, it is going to be very tough for them. First up after the international break, they have a home game against Cardiff City to entertain before entering in the Europa League and League Cup mix.

This means that Chelsea will play a game in almost every three days. To cope up with such a workload, Sarri would need more bodies in his squad. Daily Star claimed that the Blues are interested in signing Suso from AC Milan, and letting Tiemoue Bakayoko go in the other direction.

Suso was at Liverpool from 2010 to 2015 but was allowed to join the Italian giants for £1m, after he failed to get enough minutes under Brendan Rodgers. Three years down the line, the left-footed right winger has blossomed into one of Italy’s most feared attackers.

In the past two seasons, the 24-year-old has been one of the bright sparks for Milan. He has scored and assisted 29 goals in this period in the Serie A. The tricky right winger can be a perfect fit for Chelsea’s wing woes.

Chelsea ageing squad

Willian and Pedro are 30 and 31 years old respectively, along with other players who are also ageing at Chelsea. For Sarri to impose his philosophy for a long-term project, the club might need to sign a few young and talented players. Suso has already played in the Premier League before, meaning he would take less time settling, if bought.

The situation of Bakayoko at Chelsea makes this deal even more realistic. The Frenchman had a wretched first season at the club and now is in Milan on a one-year loan deal. According to The Guardian, the move can be made permanent next summer for a fee of £35 million.

Suso

This will allow Chelsea to negotiate terms with Milan in good faith, for the transfer of Suso in the other direction. If the Italian club values him at a similar price, it could effectively be a swap deal between the two clubs.

Getting a young winger who already has played in England could be a great move. That too by getting to ship out one of the worst players of the team last season, in one go, could just prove to be a bargain for the Blues. If they can pull this off in January, it would be even better.

Conclusion

Suso, like Willian, is a free-kick expert and doesn’t shy away from shooting from distance. In fact, he scored four goals from outside the box last season. The 24-year-old is a winger with lots of tricks up his sleeves that are definitely going to trouble a lot of defenders, and please the Chelsea supporters.
