Manchester United Opinion: Why the Red Devils should sign Alex Sandro?
According to a report from Calciomercato, Juventus left-back Alex Sandro can leave Turin at the end of the season.
Despite the 28-year-old defender renewing his contract until 2023, Juventus will listen to offers from €50 million upwards in the upcoming summer transfer window. The report claims Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain remain interested in Alex Sandro, who has played 42 games across all competitions for the Italian champions this campaign.
Manchester United were linked heavily with Sandro last summer when Jose Mourinho was in charge of the club. Despite missing out on Champions League football next term, the Red Devils must reignite their interest in the Brazil international in the summer transfer window.
The conclusion of 2018/19 season has left Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with a lot of problems to answer in the transfer window. United have to spend big in the summer to bolster the defence and remove some of the deadwood.
Solskjaer will have to buy some quality defenders to solve United’s problems, someone who can make an immediate impact at Old Trafford. He’ll need to offload players, who don’t play to the standards expected of a Manchester United player. One of the areas the Norwegian boss should address is the left-back position, as it’s a must to bring competition for Luke Shaw.
Luke Shaw has had his best season in a United shirt and was a regular in the team. He made 40 appearances, a season-best since joining the club in 2014, winning both the Player’s and the Fan’s votes to scoop both versions of the Manchester United Player of the Year award. In a season where United conceded more than 50 goals, the England international alongside Victor Lindelof were the bright sparks in defence.
But that needs to change in the 2019/20 campaign, with competition required for Shaw at left-back. Alex Sandro could fit the billing at United, a player who is regarded as one of the best left-backs across Europe. The Brazilian, who can also play as a left wing-back or as a left winger, he operates with a lot of flair, pace and directness.

On top of being solid defensively, one of the 28-year-old’s best attributes are his crossing abilities. Due to his versatility to play in a back four and at wing-back, Sandro will give Solskjaer the tactical flexibility. Also, he is a serial winner and has massive experience playing against some of the world’s best players.
Verdict
As it stands, a huge task awaits Solskjaer down the road. In his rebuilding process at Old Trafford, Sandro is a player that definitely needs to be involved.
