Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson has signed a new four-year deal that will keep him at the Vitality stadium until 2022. The 26-year-old has had two horrific knee injuries to deal with in the past three seasons. In fact, he has struggled to a great extent since the Cherries got promoted to the English top-flight.
However, Wilson started 23 games in the league the last term. He looked quite good as he scored 8 goals and provided 2 assists. His performances were rather encouraging as he looked determined to revive his career in a Cherries’ shirt.
The 26-year-old, who was touted to become a lethal striker back in 2015, now has the chance to prove his worth in the upcoming seasons.
Howe usually plays either a 4-4-1-1 or a 4-4-2 formation with two strikers up front to press high. Wilson embodies that system with his clever movements and ability to block the pass lanes for defenders. In addition, he is also adept at making dexterous runs behind to stretch the game.
He has the required physicality to protect the ball under pressure and can sharply turn to get his shot away. Josh King predominantly plays with him and the duo has gelled well. Their combined presence up front will be a nightmarish prospect for most defences.
Retaining Wilson is certainly the correct decision and the rewards will be on display next season. The 26-year-old, when fit, can cause havoc with his movement on and off the ball. Add to that his ruthlessness in front of the goal and you have a solid game-changer at hand.

A fully-fit Wilson will almost be like a new signing for the Cherries. Eddie Howe must have been delighted to learn that one of his key players has decided to stay put for a longer period of time. It will help the manager in his quest to improve the squad around him to keep Bournemouth in the Premier League for as long as possible.
For Wilson, the next season will be a fresh start and with no injuries, he could produce the goods that are expected from him.
