They will also encounter Thor, the Norse God of Thunder, and his ally-turned-enemy Freya, who is seeking revenge following the death of her son Baldur. So what is the release date of God of War Ragnarok? Below you will find all the details about this upcoming God of War game so read till the end.
Developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), God of War Ragnarök is scheduled for international release on November 9, 2022, for PlayStation 4 (PS4) and PlayStation 5 (PS5). This game is based loosely on Norse mythology, in ancient Scandinavia, and will feature Kratos and Atreus, the series’ protagonists and the ninth chronological installment in the God of War series.
The game concludes the Norse era of the series with Ragnarök, an event that brings about the end of days. It depicts the deaths of several Norse gods, as had been predicted after Kratos killed Baldur.
Ragnarok will mix up big boss fights with smaller-scale brawls and quieter moments between Kratos and Atreus, just as God of War did in 2018. As evidenced by Ragnarok’s gameplay trailer, which showcased Kratos’ new attack abilities and Atreus’ new Runic Summon, Ragnarok’s combat options within those moments have been expanded.
In addition to Kratos’ Leviathan Axe, Blades of Chaos, and Guardian Shield, Ragnarok includes a host of new abilities. In addition, Kratos can use the Blades of Chaos to scale heights and close enemy gaps: the Blades can be used as grappling hooks for verticality.
During the gameplay trailer, Kratos was shown fighting a centaur-like creature called The Stalker, one of the new Norse creatures he could use. As a final addition to traversal, Speki and Svanna were introduced in the gameplay trailer, the wolves that pulled Kratos and Atreus across the frozen Lake of Nine.
In an interview with Santa Monica Studios’ creative director, Cory Barlog, confirmed that Ragnarok will complete the Norse storyline that began with God of War on PS4 in 2018. Barlog explained that the long development time involved in making a modern God of War game was a key reason why God of War: Ragnarok concluded the Norse saga.
