Expect storylines beyond Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman’s original novel to unfold over six episodes in its sequel run.

Michael Sheen and David Tennant will reprise their roles of Aziraphale and Crowley respectively, with Jon Hamm and Derek Jacobi set to make guest appearances in new episodes. Good Omens season 2 debuted its initial teaser trailer in June, revealing Gabriel as the protagonist of its main mystery. A month later, another glimpse was given featuring Gabriel proclaiming something terrible was in store for him.

Good Omens season 2’s episode count is yet unknown, though it is expected to mirror that of its predecessor. Instead of being released week by week like its predecessor was, however, Good Omens will instead debut all at once on July 28.

Trailer

Good Omens fans finally have their wish granted after four long years: Amazon Prime Video’s fantasy comedy created by Neil Gaiman is returning with six episodes for Season 2, premiering this Friday on July 28. The premiere will mark an exciting return.

Good Omens has previously faithfully adapted Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman’s 1990 novel Good Omens; its second season will venture deeper into uncharted (and so far unwritten) waters and explore potential sequels that Pratchett and Gaiman never wrote themselves.

This time around, Archangel Gabriel (Jon Hamm) will get them into trouble and they must work together to stop his plans to bring on an apocalypse – while dealing with both demons from heaven and hell as well as their own foolishness!

Michael Sheen will reprise his roles from Season 1, including as angel Aziraphale and David Tennant as demon Crowley, along with Jon Hamm as Gabriel, Doon Mackichan as archangel Michael and Gloria Obianyo as Uriel. This season will also introduce several new characters including Liz Carr as angel Saraqael, Quelin Sepulveda as Muriel and Shelley Conn as Beelzebub.

Gaiman will reprise his roles as executive producer and co-showrunner for season two, working alongside series creator Douglas Mackinnon who directed all episodes. Rob Wilkins from Narrativia representing Terry Pratchett’s estate will serve as executive producer alongside BBC Studios Productions head of comedy Josh Cole as additional exec producers.

Cast

After the success of its inaugural season of Good Omens, fans are eagerly awaiting its second outing on July 28th via Prime Video and will feature six episodes. Neil Gaiman returns as executive producer/showrunner while most of the original cast will return, such as Michael Sheen (Aziraphale/Crowley) and David Tennant (Crowley), plus Jon Hamm (Gabriel). Additionally Doon Mackichan, Gloria Obianyo Miranda Richardson Maggie Service Reece Shearsmith Dame Sian Phillips Alex Norton and Quelin Sepulveda all appear.

Good Omens chronicled an angel and demon whose relationship is defined by an unequal power dynamic, who are committed to humanity more than their hierarchies. While season one chronicled their disastrous misadventures, season two will offer new stories never before told in words and pictures.

Season 2 will feature most of the same cast as Season 1, though some actors have been recast to fill new roles. Maggie Service will reprise her role of Sister Theresa Garrulous while Nina Sosanya takes over Mary Hodges; Gaiman explained on Tumblr that these characters were so beloved he wanted to bring them back for another go around.

Jon Hamm will star as Gabriel, an archangel leading Heaven against Earthly demons. Hamm has appeared in a number of popular movies and television shows such as Mad Men, Blackadder, and Sleepy Hollow.

Plot

Good Omens, the Prime Video miniseries adapted from Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s 1990 novel of the same name, will premiere its second season on July 28. It features six episodes that go beyond its source material to reveal Aziraphale (Michael Sheen), an angel dealing in rare books; and Crowley, an energetic demon living among mortals in London’s Soho neighborhood.

Sheen and Tennant make an unforced and natural duo; Sheen brings his lighthearted wit from Doctor Who days while Tennant brings Kilgrave’s more overbearing presence into Jessica Jones. Additionally, Jon Hamm, Maggie Service, and Nina Sosanya give stellar performances.

Good Omens stands out with its depiction of moral gray areas. Even after Aziraphale and Crowley stop the apocalypse from happening, good and evil remain fluid concepts for them both – reminding us that although we might not always recognize it ourselves, God and angels recognize humanity’s many shades with equal consideration and accept each of its many complexities without prejudice.

Inverse spoke with Sheen and Tennant recently about their show’s passionate fan base, what fans should expect from season four, and any potential Easter eggs they should look out for in Season five. You can watch our full interview below.
