Great American Bash Day One Results and Grades: The Great American Bash made its way back to WWE but it was a little different as this was an NXT show and the special was split over two days.
WWE was trying to counter AEW’s Fyter Fest and brought out the Bash and several big matches.
The main event of Day One saw Io Shirai face Sasha Banks and here are the results and grades from the Great American Bash:
Mia Yim, Candice LeRae, Dakota Kai and Tegan Nox met in a Fatal 4-way elimination match to find out who would be Io Shirai’s title rival.
It was Kai vs Nox that were left to battle in the final moments of the clash. Nox was able to get the better of her long-time rival and get the win.
Nox wins Fatal 4-way
Grade A
LeRae should have gotten more time in the match but this was a big, and emotional win, for Nox after an injury-plagued career.
Corey Graves claimed Oney Lorcan vs Timothy Thatcher could be the match of the summer. Lorcan seemed to have an answer for everything that Thatcher threw.
However, he couldn’t continue dealing with Thatcher’s offence and tapped out of the clash.
Thatcher beats Lorcan
Grade A
This was another fantastic match and a throwback one to some hard-hitting clashes from the past. However, there was no real rivalry that WWE could portray ahead of this clash, which hurt it.
Rhea Ripley faced off against Aliyah and Robert Stone in a handicap match. If the Nightmare lost, she would have to join the Robert Stone Brand.
Stone and Aliyah had Ripley trapped a couple of times, but she fought out. She then got both of her rivals in submission holds and got the pair to tap out.
Ripley beats Stone and Aliyah
Grade B
This was certainly fun to see as Ripley showed off her physical prowess to defeat the pair. However, she deserves to be involved in something bigger. Stone and Aliyah also had some fun moments in the clash too, and it will be interesting to see what is next for the pair.
Dexter Lumis vs Roderick Strong was next as the pair were tied together via a strap. Strong initially went out of the ring but had to be tied with a strap to Lumis.
Strong did get some hits on Lumis with the strap and even Bobby Fish came out to help. However, it was Lumis who picked up the win and kept haunting Strong and the Undisputed Era.
Lumis beats Strong
Grade A
Lumis is certainly an interesting watch on NXT and the match itself was perfect given how the story has played out between the pair.
NXT put up a lot of packages for Night Two of the Bash with Drake Maverick, Santos Escobar’s gang and Breezango all clashing.
Damien Priest and Mercedes Martinez also featured later on before Shirai took on Banks. Banks and Bayley came out in a car and the match was great at the start.
However, Bayley threw her tag title to stop Banks from tapping out, and while the referee was distracted by her, Asuka came out and hit the green mist on Banks.
This allowed Shirai to get the win thanks to a moonsault.
Shirai beats Banks
Grade B
WWE didn’t need to bring Asuka into all this as the match between Shirai and Banks was top notch. Asuka does have a match against Banks at Extreme Rules, but including this finish actually hurt the grade.
