Carlos Alcaraz defeated Jannik Sinner in the US Open quarter-final in a five-set thriller which ended 6-3, 6-7 (7-9), 6-7 (0-7), 7-5, 6-3.
The grueling match ended in five hours and 15 minutes as both players looked exhausted at the end, and it was understandable. They had just finished playing the second-longest match in US Open history. Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are two of the brightest prospects in men’s tennis and it goes without saying that they will end up winning quite a few Grand Slam titles in the near future.
The Italian tennis pro got the better of his Spanish counterpart twice this year. The first win came in the round of 16 at Wimbledon when Sinner finished the match in four sets. He proved to be a handful at the Croatia Open tournament that followed and defeated the 19-year-old in three sets.
Alcaraz has been in spectacular form this season. He has already bagged four titles and looking to win his first major title. He was one of the favorites coming into the tournament and has lived up to the expectations. Alcaraz will be facing an exuberant Frances Tiafoe up next. The 24-year-old defeated Andrey Rublev in straight sets to reach his first Grand Slam semifinal.
