Predicted Celtic line-up for Champions League qualifier vs Alashkert

Celtic will begin their quest for a place in the Champions League group stages with a qualifying tie vs Armenian champions Alashkert. Brendan Rodgers‘ men need to avoid this potential banana skin in order to further progress in the tournament.

The Hoops have no injury issues to deal with, apart from the fact that Dedryck Boyata isn’t back from his international duty for Belgium and that Mikael Lustig has just returned from Russia.

Rodgers must put out his best possible XI to get the job done in Armenia and endure a comfortable second leg. However, nothing is easy in the continental competition, and Celtic should guard against complacency.

Predicted Celtic Lineup

Manager – Brendan Rodgers

Formation – 3-5-2

Craig Gordon (GK)

Gordon has been ever-present for Celtic in both domestic and continental competitions. The 35-year-old is nearing the end of his career but still has the determination to play at the highest level.

Jack Hendry (CB)

The young Hendry should be handed a start against Alashkert. It will provide him with a brilliant opportunity to impress Rodgers ahead of the new season.

Jozo Simunovic (CB)

The 23-year-old had a decent season with the Hoops both in the Champions League and the Europa League. Hence, Simunovic should start against Alashkert.

Kristoffer Ajer (CB)

With Dedryck Boyata fulfilling his duties with Belgium, Rodgers must start Kristoffer Ajer. The 20-year-old has massive potential and he must impress his boss.

Kristoffer Ajer

Kieran Tierney (LWB)

The 21-year-old has improved leaps and bounds in the last season and he should commence this campaign on a high. It will boost him to have a fantastic year and show his worth on the international stage.

James Forrest (RWB)

Forrest started strongly last season but faded out as the season progressed. Nevertheless, he must grasp this opportunity to make a strong impact for Celtic.

Scott Brown (CM)

This is Scott Brown’s 11th year with the Hoops. The 33-year-old is a mainstay for Celtic and he should start against Alashkert.

Scott Brown

Callum McGregor (CM)

McGregor is Celtic’s main man in the midfield and he must continue his good work to get his club in a better position for Champions League spots.

Olivier Ntcham (CM)

Ntcham’s influence is unparalleled and he should join McGregor and Brown in the heart of the midfield.

Odsonne Edouard (ST)

Edouard is a potent goalscorer and he could make all the difference for Celtic. Hence, he should receive a start against Alashkert.
