The world No. 5 Jessica Pegula will lock horns with former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu in the round of 16 of the Guadalajara Open on Thursday.
Jessica Pegula
The 28-year-old has played quite well this season but has faltered at crucial junctures. This has stopped her from winning a title in 2022. However, her recent performances should give her a lot of confidence as she takes on Andreescu next up.
Pegula has reached the quarter-finals in three of the four majors this year. She recently played in the San Diego Open and had a promising run to the semis. Her progress was eventually halted by the world’s No. 1 Iga Swiatek. In the round of 32 of the Guadalajara Open, Pegula defeated 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina in a riveting clash. The match ended 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (10-8) in favor of the American tennis pro.
Bianca Andreescu
The Canadian tennis pro has had a disappointing season so far. She made it to the quarter-finals in the Italian Open and the finals of the Bad Homburg Open but other than that, there isn’t too much to write about.
She took part in the San Diego Open which recently ended. After defeating Liudmila Samsonova in the round of 32, she lost to Coco Gauff in the following match. Andreescu started her Guadalajara campaign on a strong note with a 6-2, 6-4 win against Jil Teichmann. In the round of 32, Pegula had to come back from a set down to defeat 2-time Grand Slam champion Petra Kvitova 3-6, 6-2, 6-0.
Head-to-Head and Prediction
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 1-0 in favor of Jessica Pegula. She defeated Andreescu in straight sets in the round of 16 of the 2022 Madrid Open.
Prediction: Jessica Pegula to win in three sets.
