Despite being the only driver to race for Haas on Sunday at the Saudi Arabian GP, Kevin Magnussen once again impressed by finishing P9.
Haas had a torrid Saturday after Mick Schumacher suffered a horror crash in Q2 while qualifying for the Saudi Arabian GP. The German wrecked his car and team boss Guenther Steiner confirmed that Schumacher would not be taking part in the race on Sunday.
This meant that Kevin Magnussen would be the sole driver for the team in Saudi Arabia. While Magnussen did manage to put his car in Q3 and get a 10th place start for the race, he also had issues with his neck.
Nevertheless, the Dane didn’t disappoint on race day. Magnussen put in another impressive shift after last weekend’s comeback in Bahrain which saw him finish P5. The 29-year-old was away from F1 for an entire year before returning to the sport at the Bahrain GP.
At the Saudi Arabian GP, Magnussen managed to cross the chequered flag in 9th place, ahead of Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton. A 9th place finish meant that Magnussen earned two points for the team this weekend. It also meant that Haas managed to score points in consecutive races for the first time since 2019.
Haas now have 12 points after the opening two races this season. All the team’s points have been scored by Magnussen so far. Not bad for a driver who was given a seat at the team just a few weeks before the season began.
Last season, Haas failed to manage a single point during the entirety of 2021. The American team are currently in 5th place on the Constructors’ standings, ahead of Alfa Romeo, Alpha Tauri, McLaren, Williams and Aston Martin.
