Harrison Butker Early life and College Career
Harrison Butker attended the Westminster School where, as a rising sophomore, he began playing football. With a field goal of 53 yards, he broke the school record (at the time). In addition to playing tuba for the school’s (upperclassman) symphonic band for all four years, he was a three-sport athlete who competed in basketball, football, and soccer. His soccer teams won three state championships.
As a true freshman in 2013, he participated in all 13 of the Yellow Jackets’ games while playing collegiate football for Georgia Institute of Technology. In addition to scoring 83 points, he hit 10 of 14 field goals, returned 30 of 73 kickoffs for touchbacks, and made four solo tackles.
He participated in all 14 games as a sophomore in 2014, scoring 98 points, which is the second-most points by a kicker in a single season in Tech history. He also converted 65 of 66 PATs, which is the most in a single season in school history. On November 29, he made a 53-yard field goal against Georgia with seconds remaining to force Overtime; it was the third-longest field goal in Georgia Tech history.
In 2015, during his junior season, he participated in all 11 games. In the season opener victory over Alcorn State, he connected on a career-high 9 out of 9 PATs. He was one of the three team captains in 2016 and the starting placekicker as a senior. He scored 91 points, going 8 for 8, making all 46 of his PAT attempts, and making 15 of his 17 field goals. Butker was chosen by the Carolina Panthers in the 233rd overall pick of the seventh round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Butker was given a four-year deal by the Panthers on May 5, 2017, and on September 14 he was moved to the practice squad.
He was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs on September 26, 2017, off the Panthers’ practice squad. On October 2, against the Washington Redskins, he made the game-winning field goal in his NFL debut. Butker kicked a 45-yard field goal against the Buffalo Bills on November 26, giving him a streak of 23 straight successful field goals. This streak is the longest in the team’s history.
In the 42-37 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2018, he made a career-high six extra points, and in week 13’s game against Oakland, he reached 100 points for the second consecutive season.
Butker signed a five-year agreement with the Chiefs on June 13 after signing his exclusive rights free agent tender with the Chiefs; On April 15th, 2019.
