The Undertaker seems to have retired from WWE

It goes without saying that The Undertaker is one of the most celebrated and revered WWE Superstars of all time. However, ‘The Phenom’, who has been with WWE since 1990, seems to have finally decided to hang up his boots.

The fifth and final instalment of ‘Undertaker: The Last Ride’ documentary series dropped on the WWE Network this past weekend. On the episode, Mark Calaway, all but confirmed that he had decided to call it curtains on his pro-wrestling career.

The 55-year-old veteran has hinted at retirement in the past, most notably after losing to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 33, when he left his turncoat, hat and, gloves in the middle of the ring. However, there seems to be a sense of finality to it this time out.

The Boneyard was The Undertaker’s last?

The final episode of the documentary mostly focused on The Undertaker’s final bout – the Boneyard Match against AJ Styles, that took place at WrestleMania 36 in April. And speaking about what comes next, ‘The Phenom’ claimed that there couldn’t have been a better ending to his career.

“I believe I’m at a place now, post-Boneyard, which was a hellacious battle against one of the best in the business. It was a powerful moment. You don’t necessarily always get those. If there was ever a perfect ending to a career, that right there was it.”

The Boneyard match saw The Undertaker beat Styles in a cinematic-style setting. The bout was a huge success and received critical acclaim from all quarters. At the end of the fight, The Undertaker was seen riding off into the sunset. And turns out, it was going to be his ‘Last Ride’ indeed.

“I’m at a point where it’s time the cowboy really rides away. There’s nothing left for me to conquer. There’s nothing left for me to accomplish. The time just seems right.”

Calaway, though, went on to hint that if Vince McMahon ever decided to call him back for a match, he would consider it, but at this point of time, he had no intention of getting back into the ring.

“If Vince was in a pinch, would I come back?… I would have to consider that. Never say never. But at this point in my life and my career, I have no desire to get back in the ring.”

The Undertaker is a three-time World Heavyweight Champion and a four-time WWF/WWE Champion. He won the WWE Royal Rumble in 2007 and has also held the tag titles on a number of occasions.
