Swiss legend Roger Federer shared some bad news for his fans ahead of the 2020 French Open.
The 20-time Grand Slam champion revealed he had undergone arthroscopic knee surgery and would miss several tournaments, including the French Open.
Federer claimed that the right knee injury was troubling him for a while and after a meeting with the doctors, the decision was taken to operate.
The Swiss ace confirmed that things had gone well for him and was hopeful of a quick return to the “grass” courts.
Federer reached the semi-final of the 2020 Australian Open but lost to eventual winner Novak Djokovic.
This isn’t the first time Federer has had his injury problems, and he did pick up a slight groin problem before facing Djokovic too.
The Swiss ace has limited his schedule in recent years. Federer decided to only feature in one clay event this year, the French Open.
However, that will not take place as he misses several tournaments after knee surgery.
It is difficult to keep playing at the top level without picking up injuries. Federer is a miracle to still be competing with the rising stars and winning tournaments too.
He isn’t as dominant as he used to be and taking this decision would have been hard. However, it is for the longevity of his career as Federer could continue playing for a couple of years more.

It will be interesting to see when Federer comes back from the problem. He has hinted that he would be back on grass meaning Wimbledon.
Federer hasn’t won a Grand Slam since the 2018 Australian Open, and hopefully, that changes later in the year.
