Three Premier League sides Bournemouth star Asmir Begovic can join

English news outlet the Sun has revealed that Bournemouth star Asmir Begovic might be on his way out after being axed by manager Eddie Howe in the previous league game. The 31-year-old former Chelsea goalkeeper has been the Cherries’ main man between the sticks since his arrival but Cherries’ boss opted for Artur Boruc in their game against West Ham last week.

This should lead to interest from more than a few Premier League sides, as clubs weigh up offers before the January transfer window deadline next week. Here are the three teams that should offer a deal to Begovic:

Manchester City

With Claudio Bravo out injured for an indefinite amount of time (via the Guardian) after rupturing his Achilles tendon in training back in August of 2018, Pep Guardiola and his side are left with only one fit goalkeeper. However, despite recalling Arijanet Muric from his loan spell and Ederson playing a vast majority of the matches, Manchester City could do with another back-up option.

Ederson

In steps Asmir Begovic, a highly experienced Premier League goal-keeper who also just happens to be a great shot-stopper. But given that Guardiola prefers keepers who can use their feet, Begovic also fits that bracket having played in a similar style with both Chelsea and now Bournemouth.

However, the 31-year-old will have to adjust to playing a back-up role, but given the fact that Manchester City are still alive in all competitions, Begovic should get plenty of game time.

Arsenal

Petr Cech announced that he will be retiring at the end of the current season. While the 35-year-old still is some way away from his best, his experience will be missed at Arsenal. That being said, while Bernd Leno is still adjusting to the Premier League, manager Unai Emery needs to find another reliable and experienced goalkeeper.

Once again, in steps Asmir Begovic. The 31-year-old has made 250 appearances in the Premier League alone, with more than half of those coming during his spell at Stoke City. That combined with his ability with his feet and his reflexes, make him a great option for the Gunners.

However, playing back-up to Bernd Leno won’t be the ideal situation for the former Stoke City star, but again with Arsenal expected to compete in all competitions in the coming seasons, he would enough game time.

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace have had injury issues in their goalkeeping department. It went to such an extent that club veteran Julian Speroni had to take the gloves in their game against Liverpool. Despite signing Lucas Perri on loan, the Eagles require another experienced option in goal.

Asmir Begovic can solve that problem, and given his vast experience as a Premier League star, the 31-year-old would slot straight in. That combined with the fact that he is better than either of the Eagles’ current options does make the move much better.
