Chelsea Match Report: Dynamo Kyiv 0-5 Chelsea
Chelsea ran riot at the capital of Ukraine as the Blues destroyed Dynamo Kyiv 5-0 away from home to progress to the last 8 of the Europa League with a resounding aggregate scoreline of 8-0.
Having won the first leg 3-0 at Stamford Bridge, Maurizio Sarri’s men made easy work of the Ukrainian giants in the return leg as well, with the Blues dominating proceedings right from the word go.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who got a rare start for Chelsea, set up Olivier Giroud for the opener with his headed flick-on from Willian’s corner. The youngster was once again in the thick of things as he forced a sharp save from goalkeeper Denys Boyko after being played in by Marcos Alonso.
Chelsea continued their domination and impressed with a display of good-possession based football. Giroud made it 2-0 in favour of the visitors in the 33rd minute, heading it in off Alonso’s cross from the left.
Alonso has struggled for consistency in the Premier League this term but he showed exactly why he is held in such high regard at Stamford Bridge, scoring his first goal since August from Callum Hudson-Odoi’s cross.
N’Golo Kante carried the ball forward with pace and Hudson-Odoi created the opening for the Blues, playing a delightful little one-two with Giroud and teeing it up for the Spaniard to knock in Chelsea’s third.
With the tie totally done and dusted at half time, Dynamo had only pride to play for in the second half and the Ukrainian giants started off as the brighter of the two teams.
They had a lot more possession in the final third and gave the Chelsea defence something to think about, only to be denied a goal by the post.
However, as dominant as Chelsea have been over the course of the two legs, the Blues soon took control of the game and started to create some chances of their own.
Olivier Giroud completed his hat-trick and brought up his ninth goal of the Europa League to make it 4-0 for Sarri’s side. The Frenchman then unleashed a defence-splitting pass to pick out the run of Hudson-Odoi who scored for the third successive European game in a row.

Chelsea didn’t face much of a test against their Ukrainian opposition but Arsenal have an uphill battle on their hands later in the night, with the Gunners faced with the daunting task of overturning a two-goal deficit against Rennes at home to seal qualification to the quarterfinals.
