Less than a week after signing a contract extension with Ferrari, Carlos Sainz suffered heartbreak at the Emilia-Romagna GP on Sunday. The Spaniard had a coming together with McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo on the first lap of the race.
Sainz, who started the race in P4 after gaining six places during the Sprint on Saturday, tangled with Ricciardo and was left in the gravel while the Australian did manage to get out on the track and resume the race. But it was another DNF for Sainz, his second in a row after the Australian GP.

Nevertheless, fans on social media were quick to mock Sainz for another disappointing DNF, while a few others were sympathising with Sainz.

On Twitter, one wrote, “Sainz has to be the unluckiest driver on the grid. That crash with Ricciardo was no fault of his.” while another added, “Why would Sainz not be careful there? He had a poor start and tried to compromise in the next corner. Bad driving, really.” A third commented, “Pretty sure Sainz may cost Ferrari the Constructors’ championship with his poor outings like this regularly.”
