Home » Formula 1 » ‘His first win that hasn’t come from pole and he deserved it’ – Fans react as Charles Leclerc wins 2022 Austrian GP

F1 fans on social media were quick to send in their wishes for Charles Leclerc, who won the Austrian GP 2022 on Sunday, July 10th.

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc won his 3rd race of the season on Sunday as he survived late pressure from Red Bull’s Max Verstappen at the 2022 Austrian GP. However, it was the first time the Monegasque started from 2nd on the F1 grid to go on and win the race. All of Leclerc’s other wins in F1 have come from pole position.

Leclerc was faster than Championship leader Max Verstappen during the race and had to pass the Dutchman for the lead on three occasions to eventually get the win. However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing for the 24-year-old. Leclerc appeared to be having a few issues with his Ferrari towards the end of the race after his teammate Carlos Sainz was forced to retire due to a mechanical fire which saw the rear of his car catch fire.

Ferrari were on course for a 1-2 finish but following Sainz’s issue, Leclerc also complained of a problem with the throttle as Verstappen looked to pounce. But Leclerc managed to hold onto the win and take the chequered flag for the first time as a winner in the Styrian Hills. And fans on social media were quick to congratulate him as well.

On Twitter, one wrote, “Simply brilliant drive by Leclerc. Especially after managing to hold off Verstappen with a problem in his car,” while another added, “Finally, Leclerc showing some skill that matters as he wins for the first time despite not starting from pole position”.
