The latest PlayStation State of Play did not disappoint Harry Potter fans who were eager to see their first true glimpse of gameplay for Hogwarts Legacy. The much awaited open-world RPG was first announced in 2020, but Warner Bros. just teased a lengthy look at Hogwarts Legacy gameplay.
In terms of the Harry Potter franchise, Hogwarts Legacy will be distinctive in several aspects. It will be a prequel set in the nineteenth century, and many of the main characters from the novels and movies will be absent. Fans of the franchise have been waiting for a proper gameplay footage revelation of Hogwarts Legacy, the first full Harry Potter RPG, so they can get a sense of how extensive the character creation and leveling will be.
Hogwarts Legacy Release Date
The release date for Hogwarts Legacy is presently set for Holiday 2022. The presentation ended with a screen indicating the title’s release window at the end of the Hogwarts Legacy unveiling.
In 2021, the game was expected to be launched. The release date, however, has been moved back until 2022. It’s for the best, to put it that way. It’s already disappointing as a rushed and unfinished game. Fans, on the other hand, are optimistic that the studio will not disappoint them.
Hogwarts Legacy Gameplay Trailer
The initial reveal trailer for Hogwarts Legacy above only showed us a glimpse of what the large wizarding RPG would entail, but it was evident that it would be a visually stunning game. We only saw a small amount of combat and lore in the first teaser, but we now know a lot more about both.
So far, Portkey Games has shown off the Hogwarts Legacy cinematic reveal trailer, which showcases the game in all of its 4K, next-generation grandeur, as well as the State-of-Play gameplay reveal.
With its moving stairs, floating books, and easily recognizable hallways, Hogwarts is meticulously designed, however fans should expect minor variations due to the 100-year time gap between Hogwarts then and the castle as we know it.
Combat in Hogwarts Legacy
Even though you’re only a student, you’ll be fighting magical creatures, dueling your classmates, and facing fully trained wizards.
You’ll learn a variety of offensive spells, and the gameplay trailer reveals quite a few of them. Some spells have the ability to stun, drag, or toss enemies in the air. Fire can be summoned by elemental spells for a specific region of impact. It all appears to be quite action-packed, with spells and effects flying as you confront multiple opponents at once, largely armed with your wand.
Hogwarts Legacy Locations
Due to the time period in which Hogwarts Legacy is set, there may not be any recognized faces, but it appears that we can expect some familiar locations.
According to Avalanche, it’s an open world game, so there’ll be plenty of exploring both inside and outside the castle.
Hogsmeade
The surrounding settlement of Hogsmeade appears to be a major part of the story.
There will be parts of the plot there, as well as the purchase of potion components and clothing for your character.
Forbidden Forest
Also visible in the reveal trailer is a journey into the Forbidden Forest, where a student battles unknown dark wizards.
Hogwarts School
It should come as no surprise that as students, we’ll be spending a lot of time around Hogwarts Castle. We got a good glimpse at the huge great hall in the reveal video, as well as a glance at the familiar exterior.
