Both youngsters have so far had a good run at the second Grand Slam competition of the year. They will look to progress further in what promises to be an intriguing contest.
Holger Rune had never won a Grand Slam match prior to this week. Things changed when he started as a slight underdog in the first round match against Denis Shapalov and beat the Canadian tennis star in straight sets 6-3, 6-1, 7-6 (7-4). The victory in the second round match for Rune was far more comprehensive as he defeated Henri Laaksonen 6-2, 6-3, 6-3.
As for Hugo Gaston, he ousted Alex de Minaur in a five-set thriller 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, 0-6, 7-6 (10-4) in the first round. The 21-year-old Gaston took just three sets to defeat Argentine Pedro Cachin in the second round 6-4, 6-2, 6-4.
It is not easy to predict the winner of the Hugo Gaston versus Holder Rune match but judging by how the year has gone for the former, Rune would be confident of coming up trumps. For the record, Gaston has managed to win just 5 of his 18 matches this year.
