How did WWE legend Mick Foley injure his ear?

Published by

Mick Foley has been a legend of the wrestling industry and has been regarded as one of the greatest of all time in the history of WWE, precisely due to his raw persona and hardcore attitude. But do you know that Mick Foley carries half an ear?

Yes, you heard that right. This WWE Hall of Famer, who was present in several such life-threatening events in his WWE career, has gone through so much pain just to entertain people. We all know how he was thrown from the top of the Hell in a Cell cage by The Undertaker, but only a few people know that he got his right ear ripped off in the early stages of his career.

How did Mick Foley injure his ear?

This gruesome injury came when he was a part of the European tour in 1994. He was wrestling under the Cactus Jack persona. During a live show, Mick Foley collided with Big Van Vader, which turned out to be a very nasty accident.

During the fight, Foley tried to use a move called Hangman. The action involves a Superstar getting his head between the ring ropes before striking back at his opponents. Unfortunately for him, his head got stuck into the ropes, which led to a horrible accident.

Foley somehow extracted his head, but in that process, his ear got partially torn. This was reported as a planned maneuver, but the ropes were tighter than expected. However, even after coming out of the yarns, he continued the bout and showed courage.

Things got worse when this partially torn ear attached to his head got torn off when Vader reached up to it and tore it off. The referee picked up the ear and handed it to the ring announcer. The referee didn’t know how to explain that he was holding Foley’s ear since he knew only French.

This is why fans have been so freaked out about him since 1994, and he cannot hold a pencil on his right ear.

“Had to give up my dream of becoming a carpenter because I couldn’t put the pencil behind it. It’s like my little magic trick! This right ear has been freaking out fans since 1994.”

Foley retired from WWE in 2012 but was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013. He even became WWE Raw General manager in 2016-17 for a short time. Foley has worked for several promotions like WWF, WCW, ECW, TNA, and National Wrestling Alliance.
