Chad Gable might be doing alright in WWE but how did he perform in the Olympics?
Chad Gable is one of several wrestlers to have made his move to WWE. Kurt Angle remains one of the biggest success stories as the Olympic Gold Medallist won all of the top titles in WWE and is considered as one of the greatest performers ever.
Many other college level wrestlers have made their move to WWE too. Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas are two big names who did well in WWE with Benjamin currently with the Hurt Business.
However, Olympians in WWE aren’t a regular feature. Things have been made difficult thanks to the rise of MMA but Gable is one such star to have performed at the Olympics.
He wrestled with his real name, Charles Betts, prior to his WWE career. The 34-year-old performed at the 2012 London Summer Olympics in the Greco-Roman style 84kg category.
Gable is a state wrestling champion and also won Gold at the Pan-American games in 2012, amongst many other titles. However, what was his performance as an Olympic wrestler?
Missing out on the gold
Betts/Gable won his first match at the 2012 Olympics by defeating Keitani Graham 6-0 and 1-0.
The American was then up against Pablo Shorey of Cuba in the pre-quarter finals and that was where his Olympic run ended.
Gable was beaten 1-0 and 1-0 as Shorey was also beaten in the next round. It was Alan Khugaev of Russia who won the gold in 2012 with Karem Gaber of Egypt coming in second.
Daniyal Gadzhiyev of Kazakhstan and Damian Janikowski of Poland got the bronze medals with Gable finishing ninth out of the 20 performers.
However, it wasn’t the end of the road for Gable as he found a calling from WWE.
American Alpha is here
It was in 2013 he signed a contract with WWE and made his debut with the promotion in a house show in 2014.
It was in 2015 that things started to get better for him. He started working with Jason Jordan and the pair formed American Alpha on NXT.
The pair won the WWE NXT Tag Team titles and were called up to the main roster. They won the SmackDown Tag titles too but the partnership had to end as the draft took place.
Gable has had many runs as a tag specialist and a singles star. He won the Raw Tag titles with Bobby Roode before ending that team and seems interested in forming a team with Otis now.
