Here is all that you need to know about the brothers of Giannis Antetokounmpo and their whereabouts
Giannis Antetokounmpo is a pretty popular name in the current NBA. Hailing from Greece, Giannis is the perfect example of ‘hard work leads to success.’
Giannis’s physicality and play style has quickly earned him the nickname of ‘Greek Freak’ and Giannis himself is quite proud of it.
In the 2013 NBA Draft, Giannis was the 15th overall pick by the Milwaukee Bucks. Since then, there has been no looking back for Giannis. His career graph is climbing new heights every day.
The Power Forward is already an NBA champion (2021), NBA Finals MVP (2021), two-time NBA MVP (2019, 2020), and six-time NBA All-Star (2017-2022). Also, Giannis is a member of the prestigious NBA 75th Anniversary Team.
Giannis Sina Ugo Adetokunbo is the son of Veronica and Charles Antetokounmpo. Charles and Veronica are immigrants from Nigeria who migrated to Greece in search of a better life. The Antetokounmpo family had a tough time settling in Greece; nothing came easy for them.
Giannis, along with his parents and siblings struggled hard to get through life. Among all the hardships, Giannis and his brothers played basketball to escape reality. Soon, because of their unmatched talent, basketball became the profession for the Antetokounmpo brothers.
One must remember that the athletic gene runs dominant in the Antetokounmpo family. Giannis’s parents were both a professional soccer player and a professional high jumper, respectively.
Hailing from Athens, Greece, 6 feet 11 inches tall Giannis is the third son of Charles and Veronica Antetokounmpo. Charles and Veronica have five sons in total. All of their sons are professional athletes.
The Antetokounmpo brothers in descending order of age are: Francis, Thanasis, Giannis, Kostas, and Alex.
Francis Olowu Ofili Antetokounmpo was born on October 20, 1988 and is the oldest son among the Antetokounmpo’s. Francis is the only African-born brother in the family, being born in Lagos, Nigeria. Surprisingly, Francis is also the shortest of the Antetokounmpo brothers, standing tall at 6’5”.
Francis is unique in his own way. Like all his brothers, Francis is also a professional athlete and surprisingly he is also a musician.
Francis played professional soccer in Nigeria and Greece. Francis’s musical alias is his middle name, ‘Ofili’. On July 22, 2020, Francis released his first single, ‘Shekosi’.
Athanasios Rotimi “Thanasis” Antetokounmpo was born on July 18, 1992, in Athens, Greece. Thanasis is a professional basketball player who plays as a Power forward in the NBA for the Milwaukee Bucks.
Thanasis is 6’6” tall and weighs around 100 kgs. Just like his brother Giannis, Thanasis is also an athletic freak. 30-year-old Thanasis has played professional basketball in USA, Greece, and Spain.
In the 2014 NBA Draft, Thanasis was drafted 51st overall by the New York Knicks. Subsequently, he played mostly on their G-League squad, Westchester Knicks. Then in 2019, Thanasis signed with the Milwaukee Bucks, thus gaining the chance to play with his younger brother, Giannis. Thanasis and Giannis went on to become the NBA champion in 2021.
Konstantinos Ndubuisi “Kostas” Antetokounmpo was born on November 20, 1997 in Athens, Greece. Kostas is also a professional basketball player who currently plays in ASVEL Basket in the French Basketball League. Just like his brothers, Kostas also plays in the position of Power forward.
Kostas is the second youngest Antetokounmpo brother who is 6’10” in height and has a massive wingspan of 7’2”. His physical features surely make him a worthy competitor against his opponent.
Kostas played high school basketball in Wisconsin after Giannis got drafted. He also played a season of college basketball for the University of Dayton Flyers. Kostas then declared for the 2018 NBA Draft.
In the 2018 NBA Draft, the Philadelphia 76ers selected Kostas with the 60th overall pick and traded him to the Dallas Mavericks. Kostas then played in the G-League for quite some time before getting waived in the 2019 offseason. Then in the 2019 offseason, Kostas signed with the LA Lakers and won the NBA championship for the 2019-20 season.
By winning the championship, Kostas became the first of the Antetokounmpo brothers to win an NBA championship. For better opportunities, Kostas is now playing for the French Team ASVEL Basket.
Alexandros Emeka “Alex” Antetokounmpo was born on August 27, 2001, in Athens, Greece. The youngest Antetokounmpo brother is also a professional basketball player. Alex has a massive height of 6’8” and weighs around 100 kgs.
Alex played high school basketball at Dominican High School in Wisconsin. Although Alex played high school basketball, he didn’t choose to play college basketball as his next step to becoming a professional.
Instead of playing in college, Alex decided to play in Europe for a year as a professional. Subsequently, Alex played one season for UCAM Murcia in the Spanish Basketball League. He then declared for the 2021 NBA Draft. Unfortunately, Alex went undrafted in the 2021 NBA Draft. He now plays in the NBA G-League and is waiting for the perfect moment to debut in the NBA.
