GT World Challenge Racing commentator John Watson also had the honour of racing in Formula 1 and had the special feeling of winning a race. In fact, he won multiple races in the sport. Watson raced for several top teams including Brabham, Surtees, Lotus, Penske and McLaren Here, we take a look at how many wins John Watson had during his racing days in Formula 1.
How many F1 wins does John Watson have?
John Watson has a total of 5 Grands Prix wins. Watson’s first entry at a Grand Prix was in 1973 at the British Grand Prix and his last one took place in 1985 at the European Grand Prix.
Watson won his first F1 race at the 1976 Austrian GP while driving for Brabham-Ford. He then joined McLaren in 1979 in a bid to win the Championship. His most successful year was in 1982 when he won two Grands Prix and finished third in the Drivers’ championship.
The Northern Irishman went on to win two more races during the course of his F1 career before eventually calling it quits in 1985. In total, Watson had five F1 wins in 154 entries (152 starts). He also managed to get on the podium 20 times, claiming 2 pole positions and 5 fastest laps during his racing stint.
