Find out how many qualifiers are there in the US Open

The US Open is an annual tennis competition also one of the Grand Slam tournaments in tennis. US Open first started in 1881 and has been continued since then.

The competition holds five championships that is Men’s and Women’s Singles, Men’s and Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles. Here we will take a look at the Qualifiers for both Men’s and Women’s championships.

Men’s Qualifiers

Qualifiers are held before every Grand Slam tournament. Also certain minor events, as to determine the 16 entries in the main draw of the competition. There are a total of 128 players from across the country and the world who also enter the qualifiers.

A total of 16 qualifiers are held with each qualifier consisting of eight players. The eight players have a knockout form, so out of the eight only one qualifies to enter the main tournament. The matches are divided in three round as the First, Second and Qualifying competition. Which means that 128 players battle it out. For the 16 spots in the main tournament.

Apart from the 16 qualified players there are also some Lucky losers selected from the last round of qualifying if and when needed to fill the spots.

Women’s Qualifiers

The 2021 US Open Women’s Singles tournament had a total of 63 players entering the tournament also 16 of those came from the qualifiers. Similar to that of Men’s qualifying here are also a total of 128 players who enter the qualifiers with only 16 of them going ahead.

The players are distributed under 16 group of 8 players each who then battle it out. Like that of the Men’s, Women’s qualifiers also have three rounds to determine the 16 qualifiers.

Apart from the 16 qualifiers certain Lucky losers are also selected. They enter the Main draw if and when required.

In short the Qualifying rules for both Men’s and Women’s singles tournament are the same. Both Men’s and Women’s have to go through a through three round procedure. They also have to qualify through an identical qualifying procedure. In order to enter the main draw of the tournament.
