UFC legend Jon Jones was arrested by the police while driving while intoxicated (DWI) by the Albuquerque Police on Thursday.

The news of Jones’ arrest was even more incredible as the entire world has been in the grip of the coronavirus pandemic.

mediareferee.com/tag/jon-joneswas arrested on suspicion of DWI after officers found him in the driver’s seat of a parked car. The UFC Light Heavyweight champion was also carrying a firearm and had half a bottle of liquor in the vehicle.

Jones is considered as one of the greatest UFC fighters of all time, however, the police are also checking up if his handgun was used in any crimes in the region.

Not the first time Jones has been arrested

The 32-year-old has courted arrests in the past and has even been stripped of his UFC title for other issues.

In 2012, the UFC champion crashed his Bentley into a pole in Birmingham, New York. Jones was arrested after this accident on 19 May 2012 and pleaded guilty to driving under the influence (DUI).

He was handed a $1,000 fine and had to go through several driving classes and even had his license suspended for six months.

This wasn’t his only altercation with the law, on 27 April 2015, the American was involved in a hit and run case.

This was again in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Jones had jumped a red light. He even crashed a rental car into two other vehicles.

Jones also left the scene on foot and also had injured a pregnant woman. The American was finally arrested later in the day and was sentenced on 29 September that year.

He was sentenced to 18 months of supervised probation and the American didn’t enter a plea deal either.

Jones was allowed to travel for work purposes and made several charity appearances as part of his sentencing.

His next run with the law took place in 2019. In July, the American was charged with an assault that took place in April of that year.

Jones had kissed a waitress at the Eubank Showclub and touched her despite the woman asking him to stop.

He also put her in a chokehold. The champion was handed a 90-day deferred sentence where he was to avoid getting arrested again. Jones also had to avoid taking any alcohol or drugs, going to the scene and violate the law.

Jones has apologised for his actions in the past, but he could be in a lot of problems this time around. He is the current UFC Light Heavyweight champion but jail time would end that for sure.
