How to beat Demon of Hatred in Sekiro – Tips and Tricks

Do you want to know how to beat Demon of Hatred in Sekiro? Follow our guide below that has the best tips and tricks for this fight.

Demon of Hatred can be found at the Ashina Castle Gate with three Deathblow counters, during the final invasion of the Central Forces. The one-armed demon prowls the battlefield, consumed by flames of deepest resentment as he is the vessel for the hatred of a man who failed to become Shura. It wasn’t until Wolf became a demon that he was able to depart for the next world because he was bound stubbornly to this world.

Wolf is about to kill him when a voice thanks him for ending the rampage. Getting to Wolf’s closed-off arena requires crossing the Old Grave of Ashina Castle from the Underbridge Valley and traversing Ashina Outskirts until he reaches the Gate Path; if he brings a Sculptor’s Idol, he will be taken to Flames of Hatred. But how to beat Demon of Hatred in Sekiro? Our guide will help you exactly with that.

How to beat Demon of Hatred: Phase one

In most cases, his moves cannot be canceled when struck, so striking twice before blocking or avoiding is ideal, except in a full stagger. A third or more attack may be added occasionally, but until he has mastered his move set properly, two strikes is the safest option. Because of the tracking his attacks have, Deflecting may prove to be a good alternative to Side-Stepping, even though it does not deal high Posture damage.

He uses his left arm to launch most of his long-distance attacks, so running toward him from the opposite side allows more time for attacks to connect, giving him more time to dodge or block. The second hit of his Combo can be avoided completely if he sticks close to his left leg after dodging to the right during the first fiery attack. As he stomps with his left leg after the second swing, this is not an attack and will not damage you, so it can be punished.

If you jump straight back to dodge Charge, you can often escape beneath the fireballs if you sprint towards him as fast as possible. He often follows Charge with Shower of Fire. Backing off and waiting is preferable because if you leap sideways or forward to avoid the fireballs, they will frequently land before Wolf can get by.

Be careful with the grapple

Start moving backward as soon as he hits the apex of his leap during the Eruption move, then leap again just before he lands and grapple. When using a grappling strike, the second swing will frequently be missed; however, if the attack is delayed until Wolf is about to touch the Demon, the second swing will frequently be successful. The Umbrella can block this move, but if Wolf tries to counterattack too soon, the knock-back effect will make him susceptible.

When Sekiro dodges his Harite, he’ll be stunned for a short time, but if he gets too close to him, he’ll be exposed to Flickering Flame for a brief time. If you try to punish his Head Slam early, it’s risky. Dodging his single heavy stomp attack to your right is extremely risky, so dodging left is safer. Just keep doing this and phase one will be over.

How to beat Demon of Hatred: Phase two

When he transitions into Phase Two, he won’t be damaged and he’ll end it with a harmless knockback. This gives you the opportunity to heal and use Sugars/Spiritfalls before the second phase begins. As soon as he initiates the Flashfire attack, run to either side, jump right before the flames are sent out, then grapple with him.

As the fire wave travels, it spreads out, which makes it more dangerous if you fail to grapple to him despite being farther away. In order to avoid his homing projectiles, running to the side can also help against his new Burning Wrath attack. However, don’t get too close to the Demon as this makes it harder to avoid. Only 4-5 projectiles remain in the attack at this point, so it’s a good idea to start closing in. After a few projectiles, there is very little break in the circular motion of his head.

How to beat Demon of Hatred: Phase three

Wolf will be trapped in a much smaller fighting area if you run away from him as soon as he sweeps the ground in Phase 3. Inferno attacks leave the Demon completely vulnerable, so one can take advantage of this vulnerability by staying ahead of him, jumping above the first sweep, and then darting toward him to avoid damage.

The Demon constantly uses his Charge while inside the fire ring, then follows it up with a Blazing Trail that might be challenging to see due to the flames concealing the Perilous Attack kanji. Malcontent should be saved for his final phase for all three of his uses.

It is common for him to attack him with Inferno until he is nearly finished with his animation, then to use Malcontent, attack, and reapply it just as he is recovering for all three uses, resulting in damage of more than 60% to his health and posture. If a Sugar or Spiritfall is used beforehand, the damage will be greater.
