There are two phases of this boss fight so if you want to know how to beat Guardian Ape, then read both phases carefully.
In the arena near the Bodhisattva Valley Sculptor’s Idol, you will encounter the huge Guardian Ape. As his weak point is his back, unleash your Firecracker Prosthetic and get behind him to hit his weak spot. With his powerful sweeping blows which sweep back and forth across the battlefield, this boss is quite frightening.
During the fight, it is important to always skirt the Guardian Ape to the right, constantly trying to hit his ass with your weapon. At this point, don’t be afraid to use the Firecracker, as it’s a great tool to get him to remain still while you do some serious damage. If possible, try to close any gaps between you two.
It is important not to linger in front of the Guardian Ape in open space, so you should be using the grappling points on the trees if necessary. Dodging, hitting, letting off firecrackers, and you should be able to whittle down his health very easily.
In Sekiro, the Shinobi Firecracker is one of the most useful Prosthetic Tools because it works almost everywhere. It has the advantage of staggering Guardian Apes, giving you the chance to attack. Just keep doing this and phase one will be over soon.
When the second phase begins, get away as quickly as possible. In this phase, the boss’s head will be gone and the Firecracker won’t affect the boss anymore, so the Sabimaru is an excellent tool in the second phase. When you see the red kanji symbol appear above Wolf’s head, Guardian Ape is about to spew terror. If you can poison the boss with the blade, you can make the job of getting into the Deathblow much easier.
The Guardian Ape raises his sword above his head shoulders, swings his arm from side to side, and strikes the ground. Defend this, and he will fall. Attack him several times until he starts moving again. Do not get greedy and stop once he moves because he will use an AoE attack that can cause lots of damage to you.
He has jump attacks, so move out of his way when it happens. Generally, you should avoid his sword attacks or use them as opportunities to deal Posture damage. The sword attacks and slashes, should generally be avoided. Just keep doing this and attack at the right moments and eventually you will take down this boss. So this is how to beat Guardian Ape in Sekiro.
