Yurgir, the Orthon, is an NPC from the Gauntlet of Shar. You have to counter Yurgir as a part of Raphael’s questline. Unlike other side-quests, this is different. You can either take on the NPC himself or persuade him to kill his minions and eventually you can watch the NPC killing himself.
But this requires a lot of effort and you have to overcome many persuasion checks as well. Defeating Yurgir is not that hard and you will receive some exclusive resources as well. So, find out the best tricks and strategies to encourage Yurgir in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Yurgir the Orthon Challenge – Guide and Tips!
Find Yurgir in Gauntlet of Shar. The NPC is already trapped by Raphael and his troops. You have to defeat Yurgir and help Raphael. Also, this will make way for more storylines with Astarion and Shadowheart. Travel to the east area of the Gauntlet to find Yurgir.
Once you meet Raphael, inquire about his contract. Yurgir along with his Merregons are dangerous to the citizens. So, you have to persuade Yurgir to kill his minions and convince him that this is required as a part of his contract. The NPC will be initially tentative, but you can interact and convince him at the end
Also, you have to cross a Persuasion check before doing this. Once all his minions are destroyed, you can try to induce Yurgir himself after completing another persuasion check. If you succeed in this, the questline is complete. If not, you have to fight him in a small battle.
Fighting against Yurgir is easy if you are aware of his strategies. Yurgir the Orthon is immune to Fire, Cold and Poison. The NPC is also resistant against all non-magical attacks. So, you have to use magical weapons and equipment.
Recruit wizard and cleric class heroes as they possess insane magical skills. They are highly resistant to Yurgir’s non-magical attacks.
Procure some elixirs and spells that have magical skills. Use a ranged weapon to counter his attacks. Yurgir will throw bombs that explode within 10m. It also deals force and fire damage. You can use weapons and spells that deal thunder and lightning attacks. Thunder damage works well against Yurkir as he is completely immune to poison and fire.
Try using AoE spells and attacks as Yurgir and its minions are vulnerable to these. Use status ailment effects to overcome his heavy attacks. Yurgir will throw bombs frequently and you have to jump or move to your left to avoid damages. A powerful melee weapon and AoE spells will be a dangerous combination for the NPC. Slay the NPC and complete the questline. Raphael will also offer many deals and you will get rewards like Infernal Metal and Hellfire Hand Crossbow.
Hellfire Hand Crossbow is a powerful ranged weapon. This very rare martial weapon can be used while hiding or going invisible and you can unleash burning effects on creatures.
The Infernal Metal can be used to craft Infernal Iron and upgrade engines. Farming Infernal Iron is never easy. So, you can defeat this NPC and unlock it as a free reward.
Defeating Yurgir the Orthon unlocks many stories in Baldur’s Gate 3. Beat him in the second act and receive more deals from Raphael. Complete companion questlines to unlock new stories and this helps you to level up fast in the game.
