Pokemon Sword and Shield takes place in the Galar Region. Set in an open-world 3D-styled pokemon game, where you challenge trainers. The game has unique locations and beautiful wilderness to explore. There is a dynamic range for catching rare pokemon. Think of this as an additional challenge for collecting treasured pokemon in Pokemon Sword and Shield.
If you fancy Lucario as I do, this guide will help you catch Riolu in Pokemon Sword and Shield. You can also find out the easiest way to evolve him as it can be a major pain.
Riolu – Fighting Type Pokemon
Riolu’s first appearance was in Lucario and the Mystery of Mew. A beautiful movie true to what pokemon means to all the millennials. It was an emotional rollercoaster, which had a wholesome ending. The movie kicked off with Ash being the predecessor of Wave Hero, Sir Aaron. He gets Sir Aaron’s staff which was an ancient type of Pokeball in the form of a staff. That staff released Lucario.
Where to find Riolu?
Using the map above as a reference, go to point C. That is the Northern Wild Area, the Gaint’s Cap. You can find a Riolu ranging from level 28-32. It has a spawn rate of 5% which makes it a rare catch.
How to catch Riolu?
Catching a Riolu in Pokemon Sword and Shield is a difficult task as its spawn rate is as low as 5% and only spawns during snowstorms. Use a Friend ball after fighting off hoards of wild pokemon and hitting that sweet RNG to spawn Riolu. Riolu in itself is not a great addition to the team but after becoming Lucario he will be amazing.
Evolving Riolu to Lucario
To evolve Riolu you need to increase its happiness level. There are multiple ways in which you can raise a pokemon’s friendship level or increase affection with them. Happiness or affection levels define a pokemon’s growth in Pokemon Sword and Shield.
Keep in mind that Riolu will only evolve during the daytime. So all your efforts during the night would be pointless.
