Two months after the release of WWE 2K22 it has already been called the best WWE game ever. Most reviewers are absolutely praising the new game, hardly ever giving it a score of less than 80%. The overall sales prove a similar sentiment – showing a 390% increase in digital sales in just the first two months after the game’s launch.

What makes players love WWE 2K22

One of the main reasons behind people absolutely loving WWE 2K22 is the far-reaching spectrum of game modes. The game modes don’t only allow the users to engage with the wrestling portion of WWE in any way they wish to – but also grant the ability to have absolute control over the WWE universe.

The 5 basic game modes range from the traditional storyline of creating your own character, learning, developing, and growing – with the goal of becoming the champion, to the storylines in which you are not even a wrestler, but rather the president of the federation, striving to make the entirety of the WWE world functional.

The Showcase mode and MyRise mode are the closest to traditional gameplay. MyRise follows the classic gameplay storyline – starting off as a rookie and working your way up. The Showcase mode follows a similar path, but instead of following the career of your own character, it follows the career of Rey Mysterio Jr. – the central figure, and the face of the game. 

In terms of controlling the WWE, MyUniverse and MyGM offer entertaining alternatives to traditional gameplay. MyUniverse allows players to create their own federation, shows, superstars, and the entirety of the wrestling world. Alternatively, MyGM offers the ability to take control of a particular brand within the federation – making you hire new superstars, old legends of the sport, building your own match cards, setting rivalries – and all with the goal of becoming the superior brand within the WWE universe. 

And, finally, MyFaction is a mode based around collecting WWE cards through completing milestones, various tasks, achieving targets etc. So it includes elements of standard, traditional gameplay, but with a slightly different goal to achieve.

The overall review

As noted earlier – most reviewers are praising WWE 2K22 – some because of the amazing gameplay abilities, some solely because they adore the WWE gaming tradition, and some because they are positively surprised by the fact that this game has fulfilled the standards and expectations set up by previous games in the series.
