Why Karlan Grant will do well at Huddersfield under Jan Siewert
Sky Sports reports that Huddersfield manager Jan Siewert has made Charlton Athletic striker Karlan Grant the first incoming transfer of his tenure. The forward has signed a deal that will keep him at the club until 2022, with the Terriers retaining an option to extend his stay by a year.
Grant has been on multiple shortlists given his exploits in the League one, by scoring 19 goals in 30 appearances so far this season. This is probably the must-have signing the John Smith stadium-club have made if they are to retain any chance to stay up this season.
This transfer marks a significant improvement in the Huddersfield forward line. It is safe to say that their strikers struggle for goals this season. Steve Mounie, Adama Diakhaby and Laurent Depoitre have only managed a grand total of one goal amongst them, with centre-back Zanka out-scoring all of them with three goals.
On the other hand, Grant has managed to produce a goal in all but 13 games out of the 30 appearances he has made this season. That averages to around a goal in every two games, which is a phenomenal rate for a 21-year-old striker. For that reason, Charlton had been so reluctant to sell one of their best players. However, that’s why Huddersfield have been chasing after him relentlessly.
That and the fact that unlike their current front line, Karlan Grant is more fleet-footed, agile and very lethal in the final third. His movement is brilliant and the 21-year-old knows exactly where he has to be at the exact moment the ball enters the opposition box, just like more of an instinctive finisher.
Sure questions will arise as to whether or not the 21-year-old has what it takes to make it in the Premier League, but so far Grant’s mentality and physicality have been pushed to the limits and he has passed those tests.
Huddersfield require someone who can lead the line well and score goals on a regular basis. In Grant, they have someone who can be relied upon to do the above-mentioned duties. If the Terriers have to retain any chance of surviving, they must make use of the striker in the best possible way and let him do the business inside the opposition box.
