Besson was born in the French city of Angers. He grew up in Bandol, on the Côte d’Azur. He began his youth basketball career as a member of the Antibes Sharks in 2016. In 2017, he joined Élan Chalon and played for their Under 21 team.
He was a member of the Élan Chalon senior team from 2018 to 2020. Over the course of two seasons, he appeared in 14 LNB Pro A games.
During 2021, Besson was courted by several European clubs, including Baskonia and ASVEL, and was considered for the NBA draft.
On September 23, 2021, Besson agreed to terms with the New Zealand Breakers of the Australian National Basketball League (NBL) for the 2021-22 season. On December 4, he made his Breakers debut, scoring 10 points in an 89-65 season-opening loss to the South East Melbourne Phoenix. He scored 20 or more points in the next three games. In March 2022, he had two 20-point games. Besson left the Breakers on April 17, 2022, to prepare for the NBA draft.
The Indiana Pacers selected Besson with the 58th overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft. His draft rights were then traded immediately to the Milwaukee Bucks. He signed with the Bucks for the NBA Summer League in 2022.
