“I almost drowned on stage” – Recap Shaquille O’Neal celebrating his Lip Sync Battle win in true Shaq fashion

Published by

We have to admit that Shaq had some moves when he danced on  2006‘s Sync Battle to the tune of “Maniac” by Michael Sembello.

Shaquille O’Neal competed in Lip Sync Battle and performed an electrifying rendition of Michael Sembello’s “Maniac” from Flashdance. What happens when a basketball legend and a witty, caustic comic are combined?

You would see a “Lip Sync Battle”  that was aired on ABC in 2006 that has just as much drama and fierce competitiveness as Game 1 of the NBA Finals.

The former Los Angeles Lakers great, who is 7 feet 1 inch tall, killed it by spinning across the stage on his enormous frame.

LL Cool J, the host, immediately understood that it was a “love song to himself.”

“I love Shaq,” O’Neal said. “He’s tall, sexy, and has a lot of booties.”

Next, “The Talk” presenter and former “Ghost Whisperer” actress Aisha Tyler lip-synced to the Kurtis Blow song “Basketball” while doing a slam while wearing the Lakers’ recognizable purple and gold outfit.

Tyler’s Shaq Attack in a futuristic cover of Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face,” replete with a long platinum wig and silver catsuit, grew even fiercer for her following song.

But when Shaq came to the stage wearing overalls and a curly wig to perform Michael Sembello’s “Maniac” from the “Flashdance” soundtrack, it was game time.

One of the dancers took off the lucky baller’s top layer of clothing, revealing Jennifer Beals’ iconic sweater and legwarmers from the 1983 cult movie.

Shaq and his love for music

Basketball is certainly the first thing that springs to mind when you think of Shaquille O’Neal. Given that he is one of the most well-known and admired professional baseball players of all time, “Shaq” (as he is known across the world) should be taken seriously. Of course, it stands to reason that someone seven feet tall would rule the basketball court, but that isn’t the only field the athlete has dominated. O’Neal is well-known and well-respected in the music industry, and he has a thriving musical career.
