Ferrari star Charles Leclerc admitted that he tried going vegan in the winter break but it just didn’t feel right for him.
The Monegasque was one of the stars in the previous F1 season as he did a good job in his debut season with Ferrari.
Leclerc also won a couple of races but it could have been more had his car been more reliable. The 22-year-old also made some rookie mistakes but tried taking the vegan route during the off-season.
Leclerc was speaking to RTL and claimed he tried this diet but it just didn’t feel right (h/t GrandPX):
“I tried eating vegan but I didn’t feel perfect with it. Nutrition is a very individual thing.”
Sebastian Vettel, Leclerc’s teammate also had tried the same diet last year, but that went on for just six weeks.
The Monegasque went on to say that he reverted to non-vegan diet and feels fitter than ever:
“I’ve trained a lot – I’m ready, more than I’ve ever been,” he said. RTL said he lost four kilograms over the winter.
“I’m definitely better prepared this year than last year as I now know what to expect from a team like Ferrari.”
Hamilton also seems to be in great shape and has often spoken about how turning vegan has been great for him.
However, the final decision should be based on how a racer feels. If Leclerc feels better with a non-vegan diet and can win titles, no one will be asking why he didn’t give up meat or dairy.
Leclerc has been making the right noises about coming back stronger in the second season with Ferrari.
He had some squabbles with Vettel last time too, and hopefully, that is a thing of the past.
Hamilton has also been doing a lot of running in recent days as he tries to get back into shape.
The F1 season opener is just a month away, and it will be interesting to see which team starts off with a bang.
