‘Daily Show’ host Trevor Noah recently opened up on how he ended up playing alongside the likes of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Bill Gates.
Comedian Noah had recently featured alongside tennis superstars Federer, Nadal and billionaire entrepreneur Gates in an exhibition match in Cape Town in a bid to raise money for the Roger Federer Foundation.
Noah, who was invited as a guest by talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, was speaking during the show when the latter asked him if he knew how to play tennis.
To this, Noah gave a hilarious explanation on how he really got to play against Gates, Federer, and Nadal which brought the whole audience to laughter.
He later went in lengths to explain how he had basically lied in order to get play alongside the three celebrities when he clearly did not have any clue about tennis.
Noah also recollected his experience with some training coaches whom he had hired in a bid to be ready for the ‘Match for Africa’ exhibition game.
“I don’t know how this happened, but I think I’ve become friends with Bill Gates… I’ve just met him many times, and we have conversations.
“And then one day he phoned and he said: Hey, do you want to play tennis with me? And I was like: Yeah.”
Gates, later in the conversation according to Noah then tells him that it would be in Cape Town with Federer and Nadal.
Noah continued: “I said: I’m in, I’m in. I didn’t know how to play tennis though! But I didn’t want to tell them this.”
However, two months before the match, Federer’s people called to ask Noah to send them a video of him playing tennis and it was only when he went to play with a friend that he discovered he could hit a ball, just not in the direction it was meant to go.
The crowd listening to this soon burst into laughter while Noah continued. “That’s when he hired a coach and started playing two to three hours a day to learn! “It’s the craziest thing I’ve ever done,” said Noah sharing his experiences with Ellen.
