The Boston Celtics have been connected to a trade for Kevin Durant, which forced star Jayson Tatum to awkwardly weigh in on the subject.
St. Louis native Jayson Tatum was questioned about the rumored trade discussions in a video that The New York Post’s Jared Schwartz recently tweeted of Tatum at the Midnight Theater in midtown Manhattan for the Point Gods premiere, which will show on Showtime on July 29. Tatum referred to the front office and added, “I just play basketball”. He said, “I played with (Durant) at the Olympics; he’s a tremendous player.”
At a gathering, Tatum was questioned about the trade rumors between the Celtics and Durant and his thoughts on them. Tatum generally avoided the subject, although he did express his satisfaction with the team’s current lineup.
“I have no knowledge of that.” Tatum stated, “I simply play basketball. I adore our group. The folks we have are great.”
Tatum said that he wasn’t even convinced the Durant rumors were accurate and that he doesn’t always accept what he hears.
The All-Star forward for the Celtics dodged questions about whether Brown may be included in a Durant trade proposal as well.
On Monday morning, a number of headlines emerged mentioning the Celtics as fresh contenders in the race to sign Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant. According to a rumour, Boston made the All-Star forward the Nets an offer that also included Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, and a future draft selection.
By making a trade for Durant, the Celtics would undoubtedly be taking a chance. They battled the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals for six games, and they’ve since made significant improvements. Based on Jaylen Brown’s recent social media activities, even the speculations run the danger of causing trouble. Tatum is probably smart to refrain from stoking the flames further.
