“I don’t want to say out loud what’s in the back of my mind” – Fans react to news of Simona Halep divorcing hardly a year after getting married

Simona Halep is in the news after a report surfaced on the internet regarding the two-time Grand Slam champion divorcing her husband Toni Iuruc after 11 months of marriage.

The former World No. 1 tied the knot with Toni Iuruc on September 15 last year after the completion of the 2021 US Open. She told the press in Romania: “It’s an extremely important step. I’m happy it’s happening.”

Unfortunately, the marriage seems to be running out of time as Iuruc reportedly confirmed to Fanatik that they are soon parting ways.

The billionaire businessman said that the decision to split was mutual and it will happen in the most civilized manner possible. Halep and Iuruc were set to have their religious wedding party on November 13, and Fanatik reported that around 300 people were invited to Romania’s Sinaia Casino for the celebration.

Here’s what Iuruc told Fanatik:

“We decided together with Simona to break up. Stop insisting, it’s my last public appearance… The rest will be handled by the lawyers in the most civilized way possible. Thank you for understanding.”

This announcement comes just days after Halep suffered a huge setback at the US Open. The 30-year-old lost in the first round against Ukrainian qualifier Daria Snigur.

Halep recently won the Canadian Open. She was considered one of the favorites to win the US Open but her journey ended sooner than expected.
