Red Bull driver Max Verstappen has teased Lewis Hamilton after reports emerged that the Briton was investing in a bid to buy Chelsea football club.
Earlier this week, reports claimed that Lewis Hamilton and Serena Williams were set to invest £10 million each into Sir Martin Broughton’s bid for Chelsea. However, fans on social media were left rather perplexed by Hamilton’s involvement in a potential takeover of Chelsea Football Club.
This is primarily because the seven-time World Champion had previously claimed that he was an Arsenal fan. Although Chelsea and Arsenal are both clubs from London, fans of the two teams are heated rivals.
Even reigning World champion Max Verstappen questioned Hamilton’s choice of investment after the reports emerged. The Dutchman, who supports PSV Eindhoven in the Eredivisie, claimed that he would never have any relation towards buying the team’s top-tier rivals Ajax.
While speaking to reporters ahead of the Emilia-Romagna GP, Verstappen said, “I’m a PSV [Eindhoven] fan and I would never buy Ajax. And if I was going to buy a football club I would want to be the full owner and to make the decisions myself, not own just a tiny percentage.”
The Red Bull driver then subtly teased Hamilton as he continued, “I thought he (Hamilton) was an Arsenal fan? And if you are an Arsenal fan going for Chelsea, that is quite interesting. But everyone does what they want with their money, so let’s see what comes out of it.”
Hamilton and Verstappen will now meet at Imola this weekend, where the first Sprint Race of the new season will be held on Saturday after a late qualifying on Friday. The main race will take place on Sunday.
