Joe Rogan is one of the greatest UFC commentators ever, but even he has been accused of being biased
Joe Rogan is a voice that every UFC fan if not MMA fan has heard. The American has called some of the biggest fights in the promotion’s history and still is doing a great job behind the commentary desk.
Rogan is also known for his crazy podcast and has shared some interesting insights on that show. However, the American has not been a regular to UFC shows over the past 12 months.
Covid-19 hit the UFC hard and Rogan wasn’t always willing to do commentary when the promotion went off to Abu Dhabi.
He still called a few big fights but has been accused of being biased sometimes. Rogan was recently on his podcast The Joe Rogan Experience, and was asked about this by Brian Simpson.
Rogan claimed that he was always trying to be fair (h/t MMA Junkie):
“I try to be very fair, always, with my commentary, and I’m also very respectful,” Rogan told Simpson. “Like, even if you think that my commentary was biased or one way or another, you’ll never think I’m disrespectful.”
While Rogan claimed he tried to be fair during his commentary duties, he was quick to admit that things always don’t work out for him.
The American brought up an incident from UFC 269 where Gillian Robertson was getting her eye gouged by Priscila Cachoeira.
This took place as the Brazilian tried to get out from a rear-naked choke locked in by Robertson. Rogan brought up how disrespectful that was and he was willing to call that out:
“She was trying to gouge Gillian Robertson’s eye out,” Rogan said. “She had a rear-naked choke, and this girl Cachoeira stuck her thumb deep into her eyeball. … That’s horrible. That I would be disrespectful to.”
Rogan is great at dividing opinions with his podcast, but it seems he is doing a similar job when it comes to his commentary duties as well.
