“I wouldn’t bet on her to sustain her position on top” – When former German tennis star Anke Huber picked Emma Raducanu over Iga Swiatek

Emma Raducanu rose to fame at last year’s US Open when she overcame the odds and won the title after progressing from the qualifiers.

The Bromley-based youngster created several records en route to the title. Fans and critics hailed her for doing the unthinkable. Raducanu was expected to take the tennis world by storm and dominate her opponents in the following tournaments.

One year has gone by and Raducanu has not managed to reach the semifinals of a tournament following the US Open triumph. She lost in the first round at the 2022 US Open against Alize Cornet in straight sets. Raducanu has dropped 72 spots to No. 83 following her US Open debacle and will have to work her way back up again.

A few months back, former German tennis star Anke Huber had backed Raducanu to become the World No. 1 displacing Iga Swiatek from the coveted spot.

“Emma Raducanu has top 5 game, I would even say she can become no.1. Iga Swiatek […] I wouldn’t bet on her to sustain her position on top”.

However, her prediction hasn’t come to fruition as the Polish star has gone from strength to strength and won the French Open and US Open this year and consolidated her position at the top of the WTA rankings.
