Arsenal vs Tottenham prediction: Combined XI

There is no love lost between the fans in the red and whites halves of North London when it comes to the North London Derby and some high voltage end-to-end stuff is expected to be on the cards when Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur fight it out for local supremacy for the first time this season.

Both the teams come into the game looking to rediscover their form after tasting defeats in their previous fixture. While Arsenal lost 3-1 to Liverpool away from home last week, Spurs were stunned 1-0 at home by Newcastle United.

Arsenal will be looking to make their home advantage count on Sunday and the fans are likely to be in for a riveting contest between two evenly-matched sides.

Team News

Arsenal have no fresh injury concerns but the Gunners are likely to be without the services of Hector Bellerin (knee), Konstantinos Mavropanos (groin) and Kieran Tierney (groin), while Rob Holding and Mesut Ozil are on a comeback trail are recovering from their respective injuries.

Mauricio Pochettino, too, has a few injuries to cope with heading into the derby clash on Sunday. Dele Alli (thigh) and Tanguy Ndombele (thigh) are doubtful to feature on Sunday, while Kyle Walker-Peters, who had to be taken off due to a hamstring strain against Newcastle, is also likely to miss the game.

Arsenal vs Tottenham: Combined XI

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Bernd Leno (GK)

The German shot-stopper commanded his box really well, came out of his area to intercept, and dealt appreciably with Liverpool’s crosses from the wide areas last week. So he gets the nod ahead of Hugo Lloris, who had little to do against Newcastle.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles (RB)

Kyle Walker-Peters is injured and Serge Aurier has not featured for Spurs in the league this season. Hence, Ainsley Maitland-Niles gets a place in this team despite a poor display against Liverpool.

Danny Rose (LB)

With Tierney and Sessegnon yet to return to full fitness, the veteran Englishman is a rather simple pick in the eleven.

Sokratis (CB)

The Greek centre-back made some crucial interventions against Liverpool and he definitely deserves the nod ahead of Davinson Sanchez, who was at fault for Spurs’ demise last week.

Toby Alderweireld (CB)

The Belgian looked calm and composed in possession in the defeat against Newcastle and his inclusion in the line-up shouldn’t come as a big surprise.

Matteo Guendouzi (CDM)

The Frenchman has made a bright start to the season and he will be one of the players to watch out for in the derby on Sunday after a solid display in the 3-1 defeat to Liverpool last week.

Moussa Sissoko (CDM)

He had a good game against Newcastle and was arguably one of the best performers for the Lilywhites in what was a rather underwhelming team performance.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (LW)

The former Dortmund man has already scored twice in the Premier League this season and the Gunners will be hoping that he can turn on the heat in the derby.

Christian Eriksen (CAM)

Well, the influential Danish playmaker is yet to start a game for Spurs in the Premier League this term, probably due to the uncertainty over his future but surely, there isn’t a better No.10 than him in either of the two sides.

Nicolas Pepe (RW)

The Ivorian’s blistering pace was on display in his first Premier League start against Liverpool and the big-money summer signing will certainly be one of the main attractions of the first North London derby of the season.

Harry Kane (ST)

Tottenham’s golden boy hasn’t yet hit top gear this term but he is a big-match player who is capable of producing the magic required to alter the balance of play in high-octane encounters.
